Founders:

Michael Levy

Michael Levy founded The Sports Clubs of Canada in 1973. Under his stewardship, the company grew to 10 clubs and was recognized as one of the 10 best sports club companies in the 1980s. Michael Levy was recognized as a Leader in the Industry with the Lifetime Achievement Award of the International Health Racquet and Sports Association. The Sports Clubs of Canada was sold in 1999 to Bally Total Fitness.  Michael is also a past chairman of IHRSA serving two terms.

Murray Kline

Murray Kline co-founded MCI Medical Clinics Inc. in 1986. MCI is a medical practice management organization, which by 2007 Kline had grown to 36 medical clinics in Ontario, Alberta and B.C., and was associated with over 220 physicians. MCI is still the largest medical practice management company in Canada. Mr. Kline is also the co-founder of the Toronto Chapter of the Young Entrepreneurs’ Organization (now the Entrepreneurs’ Organization (EO). He served as the Financial Chair for the first four years and managed the organization’s early growth. 

Paula Comfort

Paula Comfort brings more than 20 years of experience in the wellness/fitness industry. Paula has served in many roles including Area Vice President of The Sports Clubs of Canada.   After leaving SCC, Paula was the Managing Director of Fitness for Spa Chakra, a luxury spa and health club company.   She has become a highly regarded leader for strategy, change and operational standards. Paula is also a partner at 360impact Group, a consulting firm specializing in strategy, training solutions and quality control.   Paula is a regular contributor for Fitness Business Canada magazine.

Alanna Turco

Alanna Turco has over 20 years of experience in the fitness industry including corporate and commercial clubs. The majority of her career was spent at The Sports Clubs of Canada and later with Bally Total Fitness where she held a variety of positions primarily in regional club management and training and development.  After leaving SCC, Alanna created 360impact Group, providing e-learning for global companies as well as a variety of consulting services within the fitness and spa industries. Alanna has been a speaker at several industry conferences and a contributor for Club Success magazine.


Club General Manager:


Andy Smith

Andy Smith is a graduate from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Physical and Health Education with a major in Exercise Physiology. He began his career as a Fitness Director and Club Manager with the Fitness Institute in Toronto, and later became the Director of the High Performance Specialists – an elite athlete testing and training centre.  Andy worked extensively with a variety of athletes from the NHL to the National Ballet. He also has worked with individuals and organizations (such as McMaster University and the YMCA’s) to establish premium training facilities though-out Canada. Prior to his role at eMbody Fitness, Andy worked with Fitness Depot in the commercial fitness division where he sold exercise equipment and worked with businesses designing fitness facilities.  

Andy is an avid mountain biker, road biker and skier.  He still competes in mountain bike races with his son and loves snowboarding with his daughter.  He practices what he preaches and has biked from Toronto to Nova Scotia on his road bike in support of the MS Society of Canada.  He is passionate about health and fitness and helping individuals achieve their potential through intrinsic motivation. Andy continues to train individuals and teams, establishing fitness levels and designing programs to improve specific physiological needs. He believes in helping people realize their adventures.
