5 Things You Should Do Every Day to Live a Healthy Life

​Living a healthy life doesn’t mean you have to make major changes to your day to day or start drinking green smoothies or even join a CrossFit gym. Healthy living simply means incorporating healthy habits into your daily life. These will differ from person to person based on someone’s current habits. Try integrating any of the following 5 items to help you lead a more balanced energized life.

1.  Mindful Meditation

Mindful meditation is meant to help you to focus on your present setting and state of mind. Studies have shown that when you train your brain to be mindful, it reworks its physical structure resulting in improved cognitive functioning.
 
This can take as little as 5 minutes of your time, FIVE MINUTES! Here is how to start:
  • Find a comfortable spot to sit, preferably in a room with no distractions, the lights on or in natural lighting.
  • Straighten your upper body.
  • Notice what your arms and legs are doing and don’t stiffen.
  • Feel your breath.
  • Notice when your mind wanders and try focusing on your breath again.

2.  Workout

If you aren’t someone that works out every day, this doesn’t mean you have to do a 90 minute class. This just means getting off the couch and being active for 20 minutes a day. Whether that’s taking the dog for a walk, playing outside with your children, walking at your local park, or running on the treadmill at your club.

3.  Eat Healthy

​Eating healthy doesn’t mean having strict dietary limitations or depriving yourself from the foods you enjoy. Rather, it’s about being smart with the foods you do consume. Eating the right foods can instantly boost your energy, mood, health, and overall make you feel great.

Consider incorporating the following into your diet:

Protein
  • Fish
  • Chicken
  • Eggs
  • Beans
  • Nuts and seeds
Fiber
  • Raspberries
  • Blackberries
  • Oatmeal
  • Lima beans
  • Peas
Healthy Fats
  • Avocado
  • Cheese
  • Nuts
  • Dark Chocolate
  • Nuts

4.  Take Care of Yourself

​Taking care of yourself is just as important as taking care of other people in your life. Making small adjustments to your daily routines can make you feel better.

The following are ways you can start to take care of yourself:
 
Get at least 8 hours of sleep a day
Getting the right amount of sleep is an important part of living a healthy lifestyle. Sleep helps your immune system and memory, manages your appetite, and decreases your risk for diseases.

Establish a healthy beauty routine
Your beauty routine may consist of taking care of your skin, hair, and body. As we age our bodies change and it’s critical that we have a healthy routine in place.
 
Skin and hair care: with the summer months ahead, it’s important that you incorporate an SPF moisturizer into your skincare routine, especially if you’re active and plan to be outside most of the time.  eSalon conducted a recent survey asking 500 women about their hair care concerns. Women ages 24-54 all feared having thinning hair as they get older. When it comes to taking care of your hair, try to not wash it every day and let the natural oils do their job. Even after a workout, there are ways you can refresh your hair without having to wash it, such as using dry shampoo.
 
Body Care: At eMbody Fitness, we offer a variety of services including M.A.T. (Muscle Activation Techniques) and Bowen Therapy.  These methods can help identify imbalances and work towards getting the body back to its optimal blueprint through gentle moves performed over the muscles and connective tissue.  Both therapies are effective for back pain, knee/ankle problems, neck/shoulder problems and so much more.

5.  Spend Time Doing Something that you Love!

​In this busy world that we live in, we don’t take enough time to enjoy the things we love. Whether its spending time with your family, reading a good book, attending your favorite workout class, going on hikes, or playing a sport, schedule at least an hour a week to do something that makes you happy. Taking time out of your day or week to enjoy the fresh air and the people around you will result in a healthier, happier life.
 
Money won’t buy you time, so try creating a schedule for yourself at first. Jot down what you have going on each day during the week and where you will have time to do something that makes you happy.
